Over 2 dozen more dogs found in home of NC couple convicted of animal cruelty after more than 100 initially discovered

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Robin and Roger McLean faced a judge in June and were found guilty of numerous counts of animal cruelty after 100 dogs were found in poor conditions inside their home.

Now, Davidson County Animal Control has found 27 new dogs inside their home.

As part of their probation, they could not have animals on their property.

“They were ordered to release every dog that was there. We expected the six dogs that they were allowed to keep,” President of the Animal CARE Foundation Beth Blevins said.

Blevins said Robin and Roger were back to running a puppy mill. It had only been two months since Blevins was last there, and they had already accumulated more than two dozen dogs.

“They were breeding anything and everything that walked … When we were there in December, there were so many different doodle mixes,” Blevins said.

On June 27, Roger was found guilty on all animal cruelty charges, and Robin was found guilty on all but two charges of animal cruelty.

The judge gave them 24 months of probation, and they weren’t allowed to have any animals on the property.

That means that when animal control found 27 additional dogs, they violated the court order.

According to court documents, a violation of probation could mean 45 days in jail.

“You know they were on Facebook selling puppies, which was a non-compliance with the orders that animal control had given them,” Blevins said.

Blevins said that’s simply not enough, and it’s a slap in the face to organizations like hers when people continue to repeat this offense.

“I think … we should’ve had 177 felonies because there were 177 dogs … Sadly, we lost five,” said Blevins.

Blevins said as draining as the work is, it’s faces like Chance’s that remind her that all of these pets are worth saving and giving them a second chance at a happy life.

“He was in a shed by himself. We’re not sure why he got singled out, but he was in a shed by himself, standing in his own feces and eating that as well as grass, dirt, anything that would fill his stomach up,” Blevins said.

Chance is now in a foster home and has found a companion in another dog from a separate animal cruelty case out of High Point.
