Louisiana Downs is hosting public events during the Fourth of July weekend. On Friday, you can watch a highly competitive race card with horse races throughout the day.
On Saturday, it’s the family-friendly Star-Spangled Bash with food truck alley, face painting, bounce houses, and the local band “Barskdale Bubble” will perform. Then the epic fireworks show will be held over the lawn apron Saturday night.
Racing Director Roxanne Tanner said Louisiana Downs has been in the regions for generations. They just honored several of their longtime employees whose parents once worked at the track.”Second generation working here. Third generation here. It’s one of those things where we want families to come out to the races. How many places do they have gaming can you come and bring your five year old kid. Not many. So that’s why we want the races to keep going. That’s why we want the families to keep coming. That’s why we have big days like Friday and Saturday,” Tanner said.
Admission and parking are free. Adults can bet on the races while kids have a designated fun zone. Several of the restaurants are offering July 4th specials.
Post time for the first race Saturday is 4:05 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky above the track around 9:30 p.m.
