Hot with afternoon scattered showers & storms Wednesday afternoon and evening

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! Our Wednesday afternoon will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine across the state. Increasing moisture thanks to a monsoonal tap will help to aid in more clouds and moisture around the Beehive state.

Look for chances for showers & storms to increase Wednesday afternoon from the higher elevations into the valley areas. The showers & storms that get going will have the potential to produce some gusty outflow winds, dry lightning, and torrential downpours.

Highs will cool due to the extra clouds and showers to the low to mid 90s along the Wasatch Front, and potentially below 100° for South West Utah. The fire threat will be slightly elevated again this afternoon with some lightning and erratic storm winds. The risk for flash flooding will also be possible for southern Utah, especially south of I-70. Stay alert if you’re going to be hiking through some of the dry washes and slot canyons over the next few days.

Thursday will feature partly cloudy skies with more showers & storms develop during the afternoon hours. Daytime highs on Thursday will be the coolest of the week, with highs only near 90° along the Wasatch Front and upper 90s for South West Utah. The better chance for showers & storms Thursday afternoon will shift more north and east during the day.

Later this week, just in time for the 4th of July, we will begin to dry things out and heat things up. Friday will feature mostly sunny to partly sunny skies, with a very slight chance for a pop-up across northern Utah. Southern Utah will be dry and hot.

Highs across southern Utah will warm back to near 100°, while highs across northern Utah will warm into the low to mid 90s. It gets even hotter and drier for the weekend with sunny skies and hot temperatures. Highs will warm back to the upper 90s across the north, and 100°+ for SW Utah!
