HAMILTON, Ga. (WRBL) — Joey Gibbs, a Harris County High School graduate, was recognized after claiming second place in the nation for plumbing at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championships that happened from June 23 to 27.

Gibbs competed at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta and represented Harris County High School and the state of Georgia among 18,000 competitors in what is known to be a “prestigious event,” according to school officials.

“Joey’s dedication, skill, and work ethic not only reflect his personal commitment, but also highlight the strength of our program and the opportunities it provides for students to excel in the skilled trades,” said HCHS construction teacher Joshua Tracy.

Harris County High School officials say Gibbs spent the last four years sharpening his skillset through the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education program and has earned state titles for plumbing in 2022, 2024, and 2025. Those titles made him a three-time state champion and a veteran in the category.

On Feb. 24, State Rep. Vance Smith Jr. introduced a resolution in the Georgia House of Representatives, honoring Gibbs for his achievements at the State Capitol where he was formally applauded for his contributions to skilled trades education, while representing HCHS with integrity and excellence, according to school officials.

Gibbs credits his father and the family business, Pine Mountain Plumbing, for his ongoing success. The company and his father’s mentorship allowed him to begin his journey toward excellence at an early age.

“Without his support and patience, I would not be at my level of knowledge in the field of plumbing,” Gibbs expressed.

Gibbs was also a member of the HCHS shotgun team as he enjoys shooting clays and hunting. He plans to continue working in the field in commercial plumbing.
