Mrs. Trump also visited the hospital’s rooftop “healing garden” that she dedicated during the previous Trump administration.
Mrs. Trump gave the children gift bags with books, blankets and teddy bears that had shirts reading, “Be Best,” her campaign focused on children’s well-being.
She asked the kids what they liked and when they said they were fans of chocolate she said, “I like it too.”
The healing garden was decorated for the 4th of July with American flags and pinwheels.
Mrs. Trump also met privately with some of the patients and viewed a new yellow rose bush in the garden that was donated by the White House.
Former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton are honorary chairs of the garden.
