Patient First said fireworks should be launched in an open space away from bushes, people and animals. Medical director Dr. Simon Boulattouf said sparklers cause the most injuries, so dunk them in a bucket of water afterwards to avoid starting a fire.

“We’ve seen injuries from anywhere from like severe burns to basically eye injuries, sometimes lacerations,” Dr. Boulattouf said. “We’ve had to refer patients to trauma centers and burn units.”

The doctor added don’t let kids hold sparklers, and don’t launch fireworks while intoxicated.
