USA BMX holding cancer fundraiser and race in Topeka

Heartland BMX will hold its Race For Life fundraiser in partnership with the USA BMX organization on July 12. The fundraiser event was started in 1981 when 12-year-old BMX racer Todd Kingsbury was diagnosed with Leukemia. When his friends found out, they started the annual event.

The first year, USA BMX raised $223,000 at 130 USA BMX tracks across the country, according to a press release from Heartland BMX. Kingsbury died two months after the fundraiser.

The Race For Life event will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at 4801 Southwest Shunga Drive and will run through the evening. A Kansas State Qualifier race will happen later on July 13, with racing starting by 11:15 a.m.
