Deputies located the stolen U-Haul around 1:30 p.m. in the Bayview District after a Flock license plate reader camera alerted dispatch, the sheriff’s office said. Law enforcement conducted a felony vehicle stop and detained the driver and a passenger.
The San Francisco Police Department’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal team responded after fireworks were found inside the truck. According to authorities, a total of 1,648 pounds of illegal fireworks and explosives were seized.
The two suspects were arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on 36 felony charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
Days earlier in the Bayview District, SF police had stopped another stolen U-Haul truck and seized various rockets and barrel bombs. The driver of that vehicle, 38-year-old Joe Jenkins, was booked into jail for charges related to the stolen U-Haul and illegal fireworks and explosives.
