San Jose 4th of July fireworks at Lake Cunningham canceled due to Yolo County explosion

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — The City of San Jose has canceled its fireworks show at Lake Cunningham after the fireworks planned for the show were destroyed in an explosion at a Yolo County fireworks facility. According to San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, the city is looking for a replacement or alternative to the planned fireworks show.

The party planned Friday at Lake Cunningham Park will still take place, according to city officials, but there will be no fireworks.

The Yolo County explosion occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday at a fireworks storage warehouse in the area of Esparto and Madison near Country Road 23 and Country 86A. The fire grew to nearly 74 acres before forward progress was halted.
