CHICAGO (WGN) — A man is dead after police say he was shot in a drive-by shooting on the city’s South Side overnight.

According to police, the shooting unfolded just before 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West 79th Street in Greater Grand Crossing.

Officers said the victim, a 66-year-old man, was standing outside in the area when a dark sedan approached and an armed individual opened fire from inside.

Following the shooting, the gunman fled the scene.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and neck and was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and officers say no arrests have been made.
