Indiana Gov. Mike Braun wasted no time appointing three new members to the Indiana University Board of Trustees on July 1, 2025, including a prominent surgeon, an Indianapolis attorney, and an IU student, according to an IU press release Tuesday.
Dr. David Hormuth, attorney Marilee Springer, and student Isaac White will begin their terms immediately and are set to be sworn in at the board’s next meeting in September.
Hormuth and Springer will each serve through June 30, 2028, while White’s term as the student trustee will expire on June 30, 2026.
“I look forward to collaborating with our new trustees, who will help us further strengthen the impact of Indiana’s flagship university,” said IU President Pamela Whitten. “With fresh perspectives come new opportunities, and I know they share my excitement for the endless ways IU strives to make a difference in the lives of our students and those living in our state.”
Board of Trustees Chair W. Quinn Buckner welcomed the appointees, expressing optimism about the board’s future work.
“I welcome our new trustees and am excited to work together to build on the positive momentum of the IU 2030 strategic plan,” Buckner said.
The appointments come at a pivotal time for the university, which is implementing broad changes under its strategic plan and addressing recent scrutiny over program reductions and governance. This week Indiana University
