According to court documents recently filed in Johnson County, 32-year-old Charles Lucas has been charged with:
On July 30, 2024, officers with the Greenwood Police Department were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 1500 block of Timber Village Drive. A man, later identified as Lucas, reportedly shot himself in the leg while cleaning a gun.
During a safety sweep of the home, officers reportedly located a “large quantity of U.S. currency that was later discovered to be counterfeit” as well as a large bag of marijuana and a baggie of a brown powder substance.
The court documents allege that the following items were located during an official search of the home:
The documents said that two cell phones, as well as an additional baggie of 48.9 grams of marijuana, were collected from a vehicle in front of the home.
As officers were taking inventory, the documents said that they discovered the counterfeit bills. The documents said that the borders of the bills were “inconsistent with valid U.S. currency” and each bill also reportedly had the same serial number.
Lucas was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound. The documents said that officers saw that Lucas was “holding a stack of cash in his hand while being loaded into the ambulance.”
According to court documents, a $1,500 cash bond was received by the Johnson County Clerk on Tuesday in relation to Lucas’s case. Lucas’s initial hearing is scheduled for July 17.
