Images and videos obtained by KOIN 6 News depict dozens of droppings and decaying mice caught in traps at the Arrive Murray Hill Apartments.
Talia Erin Randolph said she began hearing (and seeing remnants of) the rodents not long after she and her partner moved into the complex in March.
“I noticed the mice almost a month ago, and that’s when I started the emails,” Randolph recalled. “I was like, ‘Hey, can you guys do something about the mice problem?’ No response. They left me on silent.”
Forced to take matters into their own hands, Randolph said she called Orkin to have a pest control specialist come out to her unit last week.
“The Orkin guy came out and he said that he couldn’t do anything except lay traps because they’re all behind my dishwasher and behind the foundation of my walls itself.” Randolph said. “My neighbors are also having this issue. I was one of 25 customers to call that day.”
KOIN 6 News reached out to Orkin and Arrive Murray Hill management. Neither were able to provide the number of pest control complaints filed by tenants by the time of the publication of this article.
“It’s a yucky feeling because I’m paying $2,100 a month altogether, and they’re calling themselves luxury apartments, but leaving mice to run rampant throughout my home,” Randolph said.
Despite repeated attempts to contact management Randolph claims complaints about the four-legged vermin went largely unanswered and the pair were forced to move in with in-laws.
“It’s because of the mice problem,” she said. “It’s a danger to my health because I have a kidney disorder and it’s a danger to my partner’s health because he has asthma.”
KOIN 6 News has yet to receive a response from management regarding what is being done to address the reported infestation. However, roughly an hour after the station contacted Arrive Murray Hill’s team Randolph received an email from their staff, which read in part:
“I left you a voicemail earlier about Orkin but wanted to follow up with email as well. I don’t have an exact ETA, they should be out today before the end of day,” an unnamed staffer wrote. “Please remember that Orkin will not respond or schedule any calls if they are contacted by you directly, they need to be called by the office staff…”
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Randolph confirmed her apartment still had not been treated.
“…Forcing me to go through the complex just means I’m not going to get anything done. The only time they actually did anything is when I threatened to call the news,” she said. “I’d like to see them actually clean up the complex. It’s disgusting. It’s like putting a bandage over a gaping wound and letting it fester.”
