Court docs: Muncie man fired gun during Hartford City party, 1 killed

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — A house party in Hartford City turned violent and chaotic after fights led to gunshots, which led to the death of one person.

Court documents reveal that a Muncie man is under arrest in the wake of the deadly shooting. Donovan Robinson, 20, is charged with intimidation, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony; and pointing a firearm at another, a Level 6 felony.

Previous stories detail how Blackford County sheriff’s deputies were called out to a home in the 2200 block of South 500 East in Hartford City early Sunday on reports of a shooting.

Witnesses described 100 to 150 people being at the house party. Around 3 a.m., witnesses said gunshots broke out. Fights allegedly broke out at some point as well, before the gunfire.

According to court documents, deputies spotted multiple handgun and rifle shell casings scattered about in the roadway. Deputies also found .45 caliber shell casings at the north entrance of the driveway.

An informant told police that Robinson and three others were in a white Chrysler 200. Someone from the vehicle allegedly opened fire in the direction of the house party.

An informant reportedly identified Robinson as the shooter, claiming he used a Glock .45 handgun with a light attached.

Robinson denied being the shooter when confronted by police. At first, police could not find the Glock Robinson allegedly used. He claimed it was stolen a week or two before the house party.

But police did find a Glock magazine hidden in a crawl space in Robinson’s home and a .45 casing in the Chrysler.

Eventually, investigators were led to a creek where Robinson allegedly disassembled and ditched the Glock after the shooting. Part of the disassembled weapon was found after a search of the creek, including the attached flashlight.

On Monday, police collected DNA and fingerprints from Robinson to test against the uncovered weapon. Robinson again denied shooting a gun, claiming “there was no gun” and seeming surprised to learn the weapon had been found.

Robinson currently faces up to six years in prison on his most serious Level 5 felony charge.

Authorities still have not released the name of the victim in this shooting.

A booking photo for Robinson was not provided at this time.
