ASP officials said agents with its Criminal Investigation Division arrested 25-year-old Taylor David Rhoades of Pocahontas on June 27 in connection with a fatal crash on Interstate 555 near Truman on June 26 at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The interstate crash left two men dead, 36-year-old Tyler Slayton and 31-year-old Jacob Ward, both of Paragould, officials said. The two were repairing a flat tire by the side of the road when a Ford Focus driven by Rhoades struck them.
Slayton and Ward were pronounced dead at the scene by the Poinsett County Deputy Coroner.
Officials said a Poinsett County deputy saw Rhoades driving a significantly damaged car that night and stopped him. The subsequent investigation linked the car to the highway deaths.
ASP officials said Rhoades is facing charges of negligent homicide, DWI, careless or prohibited driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. At his initial appearance in Poinsett County District Court on June 30, he was assigned a $100,000 bond.
Rhoades is currently held in the Poinsett County Detention Center.
