The theme of this year’s parade was “United in Pride,” which “highlighted the power of coming together, embracing our diversity, and championing love and equality as one united force,” according to the Chicago Pride Parade website.
Dr. Maya Green and Dr. Catherine Creticos served as the 2025 Community Grand Marshals for this year’s Pride Parade.
The parade started at 11 a.m. from Sheridan and Broadway in Chicago’s landmark LGBTQ+ Northalsted neighborhood. It then followed this 20-block route: south on Broadway from Sheridan; then east on Belmont; then south on Broadway; then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive.
“We’re here for one purpose: love,” Linda Ortiz said.
Love was limitless at the parade. It radiated through every smile and in every cheer.
“This is one of the most inviting places for gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual people. It helped me be who I am,” James D’Archangelis said.
For many paradegoers, the celebration represents significant process in building a culture of inclusion for all. Before some politicians joined the march, they gathered at the Fat Cat for a reception with equality to celebrate these achievements.
“It’s really important that we show unity and love and that everybody counts,” U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly said.
But some believe the progress is at risk, making it more important than ever to attend the parade.
“Now more than ever to show up and fight for our rights, it’s very important right now,” Jackson Martin said.
Police made their presence known throughout the parade route. CPD says officers will remain visible into the night to ensure safety for all celebrating.
