3 drivers suspended by Bowman Gray Stadium for fight after race

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — Bowman Gray Stadium has suspended three Street Stock Series drivers for a fight after the June 28 race, according to a BGS news release.

Zack Staley, driver of the No. 7 car, has been suspended for the rest of the 2025 Bowman Gray Stadium racing season.

Kyler Staley, driver of the No. 8 car, has been suspended for three races.

Emilee Lewis, driver of the No. 4 car, has been suspended for one race.

Video of the scuffle from many different angles shows what led up to the incident. Zack was slow on the front stretch on the last lap as his son Kyler and rival driver Brad Lewis were coming to the checkered flag, battling for the win.

Brad’s daughter, Emilee, finished third in the race and spun out Zack’s car after the finish of the race.

Zack ran across the infield back to the finish line and jumped on the hood and windshield of Emilee’s car, a now viral moment captured by dozens of cameras and posted and shared across social media with more than half a million views across multiple platforms.

Zack posted on Facebook about the suspension and apologized to all his fans and sponsors. He said his anger stems from his car being damaged by another competitor and that he lost his cool in the moment.

“I can only take so much of people intentionally tearing up my racecar before I snap. I put a ton of time, money, and hard work into those cars. That’s not just equipment — that’s my life, and to see someone destroy it on purpose is hard to swallow. I know emotions run high in racing, but I should’ve handled things better,” Zack said.

BGS is off the weekend of July 4 to July 6.

All four of its racing series will be back on July 12.
