Uncle arrested for alleged sexual abuse of 13-year-old relative, charges say

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

WASHINGTON CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A man living in Washington City has been arrested and charged with allegedly sexually abusing his sibling’s child.

The 32-year-old man is not being identified by ABC4 to protect the identity of the victim. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of rape of a child, a first degree felony; one count of object rape of a child, a first degree felony; and lewdness involving a child, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to documents, the Washington City Police Department was called out to speak with a 13-year-old victim after 8 p.m. on June 29. The 13-year-old told their mother that their uncle had sexually assaulted them on three separate occasions.

During an interview at the Washington County Children’s Justice Center, the victim recounted four separate instances where their uncle had inappropriately touched them and sexually abused them. Two of these instances took place while the 13-year-old victim was trying to sleep in their bed.

The 32-year-old was arrested and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility and is currently being held without bail. He allegedly elected to remain silent and not perform an interview with police.
