Two San Jose drug busts net over 135 pounds of narcotics

(KRON) — More than 135 pounds of narcotics and $110,000 in cash were seized in two drug busts last week in San Jose, police announced Tuesday.

Following an investigation into what the San Jose Police Department called a “large-scale narcotics trafficking operation,” a primary suspect was identified by authorities as 32-year-old Devon Sim. On June 25, search warrants at San Jose and Milpitas residences associated with Sim were executed.

During the searches, officers uncovered evidence of narcotics manufacturing and sales, according to police. Authorities said they seized 72 pounds of cocaine, 2.5 pounds of crack cocaine, 1 pound of MDMA and 1 ounce of fentanyl, all of which total for a street value of around $4 million. Additionally, $85,000 in cash was also found at the residences, SJPD said.

In an unrelated case on June 26, San Jose police located a stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the 6100 block of San Ignacio Avenue. Officers contacted a man and a woman, identified as 44-year-old Michael Mendoza and 38-year-old Anita Quiroz, who were inside the vehicle and learned that they were both on probation.

A probation search of the vehicle revealed a stolen disabled parking placard, stolen documents, stolen credit cards and narcotics, police said. Later, a search of a hotel room associated with Mendoza and Quiroz uncovered 62 pounds of methamphetamine, 2 pounds of heroin, approximately $28,000 in cash, an unregistered handgun, burglary tools and evidence of narcotics sales and identity theft, according to SJPD.
