BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Two women arrested in connection with a national healthcare scheme to allegedly steal government benefits were charged by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
According to acting U.S. Attorney Ellison Travis, Cody Hulbert, 41, and Britney McCoy, 31, both of Baton Rouge, face charges of wire fraud.
The DOJ said 324 suspects across the country were charged with over $14.6 billion in alleged fraud. These efforts are part of the department’s 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown program.
“We are taking significant strides in our ongoing battle against health care fraud within the
Middle District of Louisiana. These fraudulent activities not only undermine the integrity of our
health care system, but also jeopardize the well-being of countless patients who rely on these
essential services,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Travis. “Our office is committed to holding
accountable those who seek to exploit vulnerable individuals for personal gain. This takedown is
a testament to the dedication and collaboration of law enforcement partners, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and integrity is restored in our health care system.”
The indictment against Hulbert states that she and her co-conspirators obtained approximately $51,474 from fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, approximately $12,391 from fake Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) applications, and approximately $5,654 in unemployment insurance benefits.
McCoy is accused of submitting false loan applications to lenders to get money and loan forgiveness through PPP loans. In total, McCoy obtained at least $22,884 in PPP funds.
