ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – If you were driving through the Elmwood area on Sunday, you might’ve done a double-take at an unusual sight—a large, friendly face slowly making its way down the road.
The Abilene Police Department reported that a tortoise was found roaming near the 600 block of Lexington Avenue in South Abilene. One commenter on APD’s social media post said the tortoise was even spotted briefly blocking traffic on South 7th Street. Another witness shared that a kind-hearted resident stayed nearby to ensure the wandering reptile stayed safe on its unexpected adventure.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long to track down the tortoise’s family. Within 15 minutes, APD identified the owners of Zepp the tortoise and took Zepp to the animal shelter for safekeeping until they could retrieve the little adventurer.
