Sgt. Mark Richards retiring from Columbus Police Department after 30 years

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — It was announced by the Columbus Police Department that Sgt. Mark Richards is retiring after 30 years.

The department posted a message on Facebook on Tuesday, announcing his retirement.

Richards kicked off his career with CPD back in 1995 and over the years, was promoted to Technician in 2006 to Sergeant in 2012, according to the department.

“A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle and Officer of the Month in 2008, Sgt. Richards brought quiet strength and steady leadership to every assignment,” CPD said in the Facebook post.

He also served within the department’s SWAT, Honor Guard and Patrol units during his 30 years with CPD.
