CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The popular Netflix series “Outer Banks” — set on the coast of North Carolina — frequently casts background actors, but a South Carolina casting agency has warned the public about a scam.
Last week, Stewart Casting posted on their Facebook page that scam casting ads for “Outer Banks,” which films in the Charleston area, are taking place on social media.
Netflix announced earlier this month that filming is now underway in the Charleston area for the fifth and final season of the popular series, with a premiere set for sometime in 2026.
The scams falsely claim to work for Stewart Casting and claim they are casting extras for “Outer Banks,” a series that features two groups of teens hunting for treasure on the North Carolina coast.
The casting agency warns the community to “Never click on the ads & input your information! We are not affiliated with any of the sites running those ads! Never pay to submit!”
Safety is their number one priority, according to the Facebook post. They urge those who are contacted by anyone claiming to work for Stewart Casting or who says they are casting extras for “Outer Banks” to report it to them directly.
Stewart Casting states that they are a two-person team, and no other individuals are employed by or authorized to represent them.
The only way to submit information to be considered as a background extra is to email Stewart Casting directly at stewartcastingbg@gmail.com.
According to Stewart Casting, the requirements to be a background actor for “Outer Banks” are:
- All background actors must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Those who are under 18 years of age must have a Parent or Legal Guardian submit their information for them.
- Those who are booked and under 16 years of age must have a Parent or Legal Guardian present with the minors on set at all times.
- Those interested must work locally in Charleston; the production does not cover travel, gas, or lodging.
- Those on set must stay professional; the agency states that this is not just a chance to see the actors.
The casting agency says they keep everyone’s information who submits for casting on file.
Also, the agency does not post casting calls for every scene. According to the agency, some days only require a few background actors, so they may email you a few days or weeks after you’ve submitted to book you for a different background role.
When the agency posts a casting notice, they receive several hundred submissions, and they may only need ten to twenty people for a specific scene.
“Don’t get discouraged, we will try to get you booked in future scenes,” said Stewart Casting.
Some other production notes from Stewart Casting to consider:
- They will be filming the fifth and final season for several months in Charleston, S.C., and surrounding areas.
- They film Monday through Friday.
- They tell extras to plan on a 12-hour work day when filming. However, sometimes it is less or more than that. They ask if you submit for a specific date that you have no prior commitments that would limit your time to work on set that day, if selected.
- They do not allow anyone to arrive late or leave early.
- Call times can take place in the early morning, such as 5 a.m., or late afternoon. The agency will note in the casting call if the shoot will take place overnight.
“It’s been an incredible journey the past few years & we’re excited to have you all work with us to bring this epic conclusion to life!” said Steward Casting.
