The entire city of St. Martinville is currently under a boil water advisory due to a significant loss of water pressure caused by a major leak off of Aubrey Ozenne Road.

The leak caused the city’s water tower to drain rapidly, resulting in a complete outage through the city. The St. Martinville Mayor, Jason Willis, says around 3 p.m. on Sunday, he was notified by a water worker that the city’s water pressure was low, causing the outage.

“This line is a major leak, it’s a 16-inch water line coming off our main water well,” said Willis. “It really drains our tower within 45 minutes.”

In the meantime, the city is using the St. Martin Parish Government’s water until the repairs are made. However, residents who stay on Aubrey Ozenne Road to Terrance Highway will remain without water until repairs are complete. Willis says he hopes to have the water back on by the end of the day.

“Hopefully by the end of the day we’ll be prepared, and we can put the city back on the city’s water, right now we are using the parish water which is the same water Catahoula uses,” said Willis.

He says for residents to bare with officials while the leak gets taken care of.

“It’s an old infrastructure, we have no control over it,” said Willis. “But what we try to do is repair it as soon as possible and get the residents back up and running.”

Residents are advised to boil their water before using. There is no estimate for completion of the leak at this time.
