(KRON) — Longtime Golden State Warrior Kevon Looney is leaving the team in free agency, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Looney has reportedly signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Looney, 29, departs the Warriors after spending his first 10 seasons in the Bay Area. He won three championships (2017, 2018 and 2022) alongside the trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
The Warriors drafted Looney out of UCLA in the first round (30th overall) in the 2015 NBA Draft.
Looney reunites with former Warrior teammate Jordan Poole. The latter was traded to New Orleans last week. Poole and Looney were teammates from 2019-2023.
Looney is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 4.5 points and 6.1 rebounds in 76 regular-season games, starting in six of those. He averaged 15 minutes per contest.
The Warriors finished the 2024-25 season as a No. 7 seed and a 4-1 series loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals. Golden State went 48-34 in the regular season.
