Izard County man dies in lawn mowing accident

An Izard County man has died in a lawn mowing accident. The Izard County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the Horseshoe Bend man pending notification of next of kin.

According to the sheriff’s office, they received a report of a missing man about 1:00 Monday morning. The caller said the man had borrowed a mower Sunday afternoon but had not returned it, his yard was not mowed and the man could not be located.

Izard County deputies responded and began a search for the man. Around 7:30 Monday morning, the man and the mower were found at the intersection of North Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue in Horseshoe Bend.

Deputies determined the man had been mowing at the location when the mower overturned into a culvert which was hidden by underbrush, making the scene difficult to detect. The mower landed on top of the man, trapping him beneath him and killing him.
