CHICAGO — You can help name Chicago’s new Piping Plover chicks!
The three chicks were born June 20 at Montrose Beach, the progeny of Piping Plover power couple father, Imani, and mother, Sea Rocket.
The Chicago Bird Alliance, Chicago Ornithological Society, and the Illinois Audubon Society announced the naming contest Monday, saying: “as is usual for Great Lakes Piping Plovers, the chicks will be banded and will be individually identifiable.”
Anyone interested in entering can submit up to three names via the online form.
The contest organizers are asking that the names “reflect Chicago’s heritage, culture and diversity.” Names may not be of an elected official, political figure or a business or corporation.
The contest will be open until 7 p.m. July 7.
