RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Governor Stein will sign six bills into law in a live press conference that can be viewed above starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The following are the bill titles and summaries of what each law will establish once in effect.
Senate Bill 124: State Hiring Accessibility and Modernization
- Direct the State Human Resources Commission (Commission) to examine the educational, experiential, and training requirements for jobs and determine when practical experience and training may be the appropriate qualification for a position.
- Require the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) to streamline the job application process for State positions by allowing applicants to upload resumes or website profiles.
- Provide that State departments, agencies, and institutions should simplify their job postings to make it easy for applicants to read the postings and understand essential qualifications and management preferences.
Senate Bill 321: Accounting Workforce Development Act
- Modify the education and work experience required to be licensed as a certified public accountant.
House Bill 67: Healthcare Workforce Reforms
- Strengthens access to health care and to provide a streamlined process that allows physicians to become licensed in multiple states.
House Bill 412: Child Care Regulatory Reforms
- Require the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child Development and Early Education to develop a proposed plan to separate the Quality Rating and Improvement System and subsidized child care subsidy reimbursement rates and complete a new market rate study by May 1, 2026.
House Bill 959: Various Education Changes
- Require local boards of education to adopt an internet safety policy.
- Require the standard course of study to include instruction regarding social media and its effects on health.
- Require public school units to adopt wireless community policies that prohibit students from using, displaying, or having a wireless communication device turned on during instructional time except in certain situations.
House Bill 948: The P.A.V.E Act
- Amend laws that relate to Mecklenburg County sales tax for public transportation.
- Amend laws that relate to Mecklenburg County U-Drive-It Tax.
- Authorize Mecklenburg County to levy an additional sales and use tax, and outlines use criteria, for roadway systems and public transportation systems.
