LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said a Georgia resident was charged with possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The Leesburg Police Department (LPD) said last year in November, it received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It was about an alert from a social media platform that claimed one of its users’ accounts had CSAM.
Detectives found seven digital images that were consistent with CSAM.
LPD said the suspect was identified as 26-year-old Penelope Colon from Georgia, but at the time the content was uploaded, Colon was living in Leesburg.
On June 18, Colon returned from Georgia and was charged with seven counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, LPD said.
Colon was released on June 20 on a personal recognizance (PR) bond, according to LPD.
