Free Lyft rides throughout the DC area available on the Fourth of July

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A local nonprofit is offering free Lyft rides throughout the Washington metropolitan area during this week’s Fourth of July celebrations in its efforts to curb drunk driving.

Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) said beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday, D.C. area residents who are 21 and older can use a SoberRide promo code for a free ride home (up to $15).

All users have to do is download Lyft and enter the SoberRide code in the app’s “Payment” tab, under the “Add Lyft Pass” option. The code will be available starting at 3 p.m. on July 4.

“Nearly 40% of U.S. traffic fatalities during Independence Day involve drunk drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” Kurt Erickson, WRAP’s President, said in a statement.

Areas eligible for the voucher include D.C., Northern Virginia, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and more throughout the DMV.
