CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Celebrations in Caldwell County will look different this Independence Day.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office has issued a reminder that certain activities are prohibited on the Lutz Tract of Pisgah Game Lands, including:

  • No alcohol
  • No camping
  • No target shooting
  • No swimming
  • No fires

Only hunting, fishing, and the use of posted trails and parking areas are allowed.

County officials said these restrictions are in place to protect natural resources and ensure public safety, especially in light of damage from 2024’s Hurricane Helene. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission and the US Forest Service are helping enforce the rules.

Additionally, the Wilson Creek Gorge Day Use Area and several trails remain closed, including:

  • Harper Creek Trail (TR260)
  • Wilson Creek Trail (TR258)
  • Wilson Creek Spur Trail (TR258A)
