Strike looms for District Council 33 union as leaders walk out of negotiations

(WPHL) — District Council 33, Philadelphia’s largest blue-collar union, will possibly go on strike as union leaders walked out of negotiations just hours before the strike deadline and planned rally.

If an agreement isn’t reached, DC 33 is expected to be on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The rally is expected to be held at 5 p.m. on Monday.

So far, the city has offered 2%.

In a statement by the AFSCME District Council 33, “the city administration remains firm on its stance and is still unwilling to present a financial offer that meets our expectations.”

DC 33 is responsible for services including 911 dispatchers, street repairs, trash collection, airport workers, school crossing guards, and more.
