PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Divers found the body of a paddleboarder who disappeared Saturday in Skamania County.
The sheriff’s office said the 40-year-old woman went under near Viento State Park, prompting a seven-diver search.
Her body was found about 150 yards from the shore in 15 feet of water around 10:30 a.m., according to deputies involved in the search and rescue.
The sheriff’s office said this should be a reminder to wear a life jacket when you’re out on the water, as “even strong swimmers can get overwhelmed by cold water.”
Officials say this is especially important as the Fourth of July approaches and extreme temperatures draw more people to the water.
“The dive team encourages you to wear your life jacket, swim in pairs, always monitor children, and not to consume alcohol, marijuana, and other substances that could affect your swimming,” Skamania County deputies said.
