Monday forecast: Hot and humid start in Chicagoland, chance of afternoon storms, decreasing humidity later

The work week in Chicagoland will begin with high heat and humidity, at least for the first part of Monday.

But a cold front will bring some relief from the humidity later, along with the chance for afternoon storms.

High temperatures Monday will get to around 90, which will likely come between about noon and 1 p.m. Dew points in the upper 60s to lower 70s, meanwhile, were nearly matching the air temps early Monday morning, so it’s very humid around Chicagoland to start the day.

Some afternoon storms could bring gusty winds, but they’ll move through quickly with the cold front, so there’s not a lot of rain expected Monday in Chicagoland.

Things should quiet down by about 10 or 11 p.m., as drier, more comfortable air settles in overnight. That will lead to a pleasant forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with lots of sunshine, less humidity and high temps in the mid- to upper 80s.

But come the Fourth of July on Friday and the ensuing weekend, it looks like the heat will ramp back up again into the 90s (see more below).

Fourth of July forecast

Looking ahead, the pattern of warmer-than-normal temps looks to continue around Chicagoland through Fourth of July weekend.

We’ll get a bit of a midweek cooling, thanks to less humid air, but temps for the coming Fourth of July weekend are projected to rise into the mid- to low 90s, at least through Saturday.
