HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Owensboro Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened overnight in the 1800 block of Hughes Avenue.

According to a release from OPD, officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance and gunfire at an apartment shortly before midnight.

Officers at the scene said they located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Authorities said a woman was found in the living room of the apartment. She’d been shot in the chest and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A man was also located in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest. The male victim was transported to a hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives say preliminary findings indicate that one or more individuals entered the apartment, leading to a confrontation and gunfire. Two other people were inside the apartment when officers arrived and were taken to the Owensboro Police Department for questioning. Two firearms were also recovered from the scene.
