LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in a North Carolina town northwest of Charlotte Sunday afternoon after officers found a woman at the scene had been shot at least twice, police said.
The incident was reported as a domestic incident just after 1:25 p.m. at the Betty G. Ross Park, at 800 Madison Street in the Lincoln County town of Lincolnton, according to a Lincolnton Police Department news release.
When officers arrived at the park, they discovered a woman with at least two gunshot wounds, police said.
“The incident led to an officer-involved shooting at the park,” the news release said. A man at the park was killed at the scene, according to police in Lincolnton, about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte.
The woman was in critical condition on Sunday evening, police said.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, which is standard procedure in such incidents.
No names were released on Sunday of anyone involved.
