CHICAGO (WGN) — One person is dead and another is in custody after a stabbing Sunday at one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.
According to the Chicago Police Department, a verbal altercation between two men at Navy Pier turned violent around 5:30 p.m., leaving a 56-year-old man dead and a 64-year-old suspect in custody with a stab wound.
Police say the two men were arguing when the 64-year-old man pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the 56-year-old man multiple times. The younger man suffered several stab wounds to his upper body and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 64-year-old man also suffered a stab wound to his chest during the altercation, according to police. He was transported to a local hospital in serious condition and remains in police custody.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and no charges have been announced so far against the man in custody. WGN News has been told that the two men knew each other, but it’s not clear what their relationship was.
Navy Pier did not shut down Sunday during the course of the investigation into the incident, but investigators did cordon off the area where the stabbing happened.
