MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been given a $1 million bond for supplying drugs that led to a man’s death, according to the Monroe Police Department.
On March 4, 2025, officers responded to a house on Broome Street about an unresponsive man. Despite life-saving efforts, the man, 39-year-old Jerry Petrovus Deese, was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was determined to be a drug overdose, officials said.
Investigators identified 52-year-old Fredrick Oneal Bivens as the person responsible for giving Deese the drugs that led to his death.
On Saturday, June 28, Bivens was booked into the Union County Detention Center under a $1 million bond for death by distribution.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jerry Deese,” Chief Rhett Bolen said. “Let this case serve as a clear message: if you distribute deadly drugs in our community, you will be held accountable. My department remains fully committed to aggressively pursuing those who profit from narcotics and ensuring they face the consequences of their actions.”
