ISP: Woman with child in back seat hit 125 mph while trying to flee police on I-69 in Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. – A woman reached speeds of 125 mph while attempting to get away from police in Delaware County.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Friday, June 27, when a state trooper tried to stop a yellow 2012 Chevrolet Camaro for speeding on southbound I-69 near mile marker 251.

The trooper clocked the car going at 82 mph in the 70 mph zone, according to court documents.

The driver, however, didn’t stop. Instead, she accelerated, reaching estimated speeds of 125 mph during a brief pursuit in which she passed “all vehicles using the left and right lane, along with the right shoulder,” according to court documents.

She eventually stopped on the right shoulder after about three miles at mile marker 248.

State troopers took the driver, 29-year-old Sierra Evette Vanoven of Fort Wayne, into custody.

They also found a 1-year-old child in a car seat in the back. The child was unharmed and released into custody of the Department of Child Services.

Preliminary charges against Vanoven include resisting law enforcement and neglect of a dependent, both felonies, and reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

She was taken to the Delaware County Jail.
