BATON ROUGE. La (Louisiana First) — Sunday morning in Gonzales brought the sound of music, the buzz of clippers, and the smell of food in the air as residents gathered for a celebration of creativity and community.
Food trucks lined the area, vendors displayed their goods, and even a live barbering competition brought crowds to cheer on the talent.
“People that have never displayed their talents, have stuff in this facility, which is phenomenal, I love it,” said Gonzales Mayor Tim Riley.
“This is actually something great to come to Gonzales and Ascension Parish in general. We really appreciate Erica for letting us come out here and be a part of this beautiful event,” Moe Jaber, a local business owner, said.
“I’m a local hairstylist, and I felt the need because there is not too much togetherness, so I really wanted to bring the community together and especially our industry filled with this and creating opportunities for small businesses and show them the right way of doing everything,” said Erica Miller, the event organizer.
Guiding people in the right direction sometimes requires an extra push, and this event is showing they have support in whatever they do.
“Sometimes you need a push, and if you are out here by yourself, you’re lost, so it’s helpful when you have someone to have your back and show you the way,” said Miller.
But it’s not just about the clientele, it’s about knowing this is a safe space.
“We are here to support, and I want to be that support system,” said Miller.
