(KRON) — A woman was arrested for identity theft charges Wednesday after allegedly trying to use a fraudulent Social Security card inside an American Canyon credit union, according to police.
Employees of Redwood Credit Union reported to the American Canyon Police Department of a fraud in progress. Arriving officers contacted the suspect, identified as Tamia Young, and learned that she was on probation in Santa Clara County.
Young, a Vallejo resident, had allegedly used the fake Social Security information to open four credit card accounts, police said. According to authorities, the four accounts had racked up nearly $16,000 in fraudulent purchases.
Another woman accompanying Young at the bank, identified by police as Endya Patteway of Union City, had an outstanding warrant out of Contra Costa County.
Both women were arrested and booked into the Napa County Jail.
