DERWOOD, Md. (DC News Now) — A Sunday morning fire in Montgomery County resulted in roughly $1 million in damages, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

In a post on the X platform just before 7 a.m., MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer said that crews were in the 8100 block of Pepper Ridge Way off of Washington Grove Lane in Derwood.

Piringer said that the fire seems to have started on the deck before extending into the attic of a single-family house.

The family of four was able to evacuate safely, but will be displaced.

In total, three houses were damaged, and 75 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

According to Piringer, the fire was deemed accidental and caused by two ignition sources of a grill and an electrical wire.
