Decomposing body found after fire in vacant Lawncrest building

(WPHL) — After battling the blazes at a building in Lawncrest, investigators made a shocking discovery when a decomposing body was found on the second floor away from the flames.

According to the officials, the fire occurred on the first floor of a vacant three-story building on Rising Sun Avenue and Sentner Street.

After quickly putting out the fire on the first floor, a body was found on the second floor.

“EMS evaluated the person and determined that they had been deceased for quite a while. The body had rigor mortis and was in a state of decay,” said Gerald Boyle, Assistant Fire Chief of the Philadelphia Fire Department.

The cause of the fire and the cause of death are both under investigation.
