Nine ducklings rescued from Cary storm drain thanks to good Samaritan, animal control

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Officials with the Cary Animal Services said a mother duck’s search for her babies is over and they have reunited, thanks to a rescue by the town’s animal control.

On Friday, officials shared on social media that a good Samaritan called in that a mother duck seemed frazzled over something inside a storm drain.

When officers with Animal Services arrived, they said they found nine ducklings in three different pipes.

“Our Animal Services, Public Works, and citizen combo team pulled out all the stops, including creating noise, running water, and sending in a drain camera to view and literally push the ducklings into the sewer basins where they could be netted,” the social media post said. “Thank you to our amazing, concerned citizen and especially to Mari and Deondre from Public Works for not giving up until we had all the ducklings safe.”

Once each duckling was rescued, the group reunited them with their mother and released them into the nearby retention pond.

Although they said it was a difficult rescue, Cary Animal Services said the heat and sweat were worth watching the duck family come together again safely.
