West Virginians may have been exposed to measles: Department of Health

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia Department of Health (WVDH) has issued an alert warning that some West Virginians may have been exposed to measles if they traveled to Washington, D.C. earlier this month.

According to a Facebook post from the WVDH, the department’s Bureau of Public Health was recently notified that a person with a confirmed case of measles traveled through the Washington Dulles International Airport on Thursday, June 19.

Officials said the confirmed case is an international traveler who was visiting North Carolina. They added that any West Virginians who visited the following areas may have been exposed:

  • Concourse A between 7:45 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
  • Transportation to the International Arrivals Building between 7:45 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
  • Baggage claim between 7:45 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
  • The departures area of the main terminal between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
  • East Security Checkpoint between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
  • Transportation to or inside Concourse C between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.

Officials said anyone exposed is expected to develop symptoms between June 26 and July 10. Anyone who has additional questions can contact the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services at 304-558-5358.

Washington Dulles International Airport serves multiple West Virginia airports frequently, including Morgantown (MGW) and Charleston (CHS).
