PORTLAND, Ore (KOIN) — A 16-year-old is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after police say he shot four people at a Southeast Portland event center, leaving them hospitalized Friday night.
At around 9:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 14900 block of Southeast Stark Street.
Arriving at the scene, they found four people with gunshot wounds, including a 40-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy.
Although the victims were taken by ambulance to hospitals with serious injuries, officials say they are all expected to survive.
The suspect left the scene before police arrived, but many people in attendance at the event center gave officers a description, and they set up a perimeter around the area.
During the search, police said a neighbor alerted them of two people hiding in a backyard shed in the area of Southeast 160th Avenue and East Burnside Street, around 15 blocks from where the shooting took place.
After using a loudspeaker to call them out, the two were taken into custody just before 11 p.m.
A 16-year-old boy was booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of second-degree attempted murder (4 counts), first-degree assault (4 counts), unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, as well as unlawful discharge of a firearm.
A 17-year-old girl who was initially detained by officers was released.
Police said early investigation revealed the suspect fired at least 25 rounds. In addition to the four people injured, parked vehicles and other property were also hit by bullets.
Anyone with further information on this incident is encouraged to contact Portland police.
