Seven people treated for inhalation symptoms on American Airlines plane at Charlotte Douglas: Medic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Seven people were sent to the hospital for inhalation on board a plane at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Friday night, Medic officials say. 

American Airlines confirmed this occurred on Flight 2055, slated to travel from CLT to Los Angeles. Airline officials said that before boarding, an odor was reported, crew members received medical attention on site, and were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Medic confirmed its response to the mass casualty event on a plane at CLT around 10 p.m. They transported six patients with minor symptoms and another with serious ones to Atrium Health CMC. Six were members of the flight crew, and one was a gate agent.

Medic says there was “a slight odor of jet fuel” on the plane.

American says the aircraft was taken out of service and is being inspected by its maintenance team. Customers were expected to depart for LAX on a replacement aircraft. 

The incident occurred during a ground stop at the airport that was in place from 6:30 p.m. until being lifted at 10 p.m.
