SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) released its plan to support the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign by saturating the city with officers.
According to the statement, over the past two years, the SPD’s DWI Unit has led the state in DWI arrests, earning a reputation as one of the most proactive units in Louisiana. This upcoming holiday will prove no different, with SPD patrols highly active for approximately a week, leading up to the Fourth of July Weekend.
“We’re going to be out looking for that and our DWI officers have led the state for the past 2 years in DWI arrest, so don’t test them they will be out there and, and unfortunately if you’re impaired, you’re drinking and driving, there’s a good opportunity that you’re gonna meet them,” said Cpl. Chris Bordelon
July 2 through July 6, police presence will be increased throughout the city with a focused effort on finding and arresting drunk and impaired drivers.
The department states that the enhanced enforcement efforts are part of Shreveport’s mission to reduce traffic-related fatalities and maintain road safety.
“If you choose to drive drunk,” the department warns, “there’s a good chance you’ll meet our DWI unit.”
The National Travel Safety Administration’s data shows drunk driving was involved in 38 percent of the fatal traffic crashes during the Fourth of July holiday in 2023.
