PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania state representative is aiming to increase the time allotted to appeal an E-ZPass toll violation placed on rental cars.
The legislation, authored by Rep. Melissa Cerrato (D-Montgomery), explained that rental car companies have 30 days to appeal E-ZPass toll violations that occur with their rental cars, with the owner of the vehicle being the liable one.
However, if the owner or employee of a rental car is not driving, as is often the case, the company can appeal the violation so that the driver, the renter, is held responsible instead. Cerrato’s legislation would increase the timeframe for appeals from 30 days to 60 days, which aims to give rental car companies more time to appeal violations.
The Representative argued that the bill would ensure the driver of the vehicle is held responsible for the toll while also allowing for greater flexibility if the original invoice is lost or delayed.
