(KRON) — A Napa County man was arrested for attempted murder at about 4 a.m. Friday following a 7-hour standoff in which he shot at deputies, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were initially called to a home on the 300 block of Tobin Avenue in the rural community of Angwin at 8:45 p.m. Thursday for a domestic dispute. Witnesses told deputies that the suspect, 54-year-old Luis Armando Alvarado, had fired a gun inside the home.
“Everyone inside the residence escaped safely, while Alvarado remained barricaded inside,” the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies attempted to negotiate with Alvarado for a peaceful surrender. However, the man proceeded to shoot at deputies multiple times, NCSO said. More law enforcement officers were called to the scene and the NCSO SWAT Team, and officers from the Napa Police Department and the St. Helena Police Department surrounded the home.
“Out of an abundance of caution, nearby residents were evacuated by SWAT personnel as the standoff continued for seven hours,” NCSO said. “After ensuring the safety of surrounding residents, SWAT deployed less-lethal munitions into the residence.”
No deputies or citizens were injured by the gunfire. Alvarado was ultimately arrested and booked into the Napa County jail for charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation is ongoing.
